PHOEBE ANNA TRAQUAIR 1852 – 1936. An Irish born artist and embroiderer important in the Arts and Crafts movement in Scotland. She mastered mural painting, embroidery, enamelling and book illustrations.
One of her iconic works was the grand piano commissioned for the great hall at Lympne Castle in Kent. It’s become known as the ‘Willowwood’ piano as it was partly inspired by the sonnets written by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a meditation on the joys and sorrows of love.
