UFFINGTON HORSE
The Uffington White Horse is a prehistoric hill figure, 110 m long, formed from deep trenches filled with crushed white chalk. Over the centuries the chalk has been cleaned of vegetation and has become an annual ritual called scouring.
It’s original purpose is unknown but some say it may represent the Celtic horse goddess Epona or the Welsh goddess Rhiannon.
