HISTORY
STONEHENGE is a Neolithic monument in Wiltshire, England, dating back 5000 years but took many centuries to build. It is one of the World's greatest natural wonders. It's purpose has had scholars speculating for years. There is evidence of human burials, and because of the stones alignment to the rising of the sun at the Summer and Winter Solstices it possibly indicates it's use in Pagan ceremonies. It's construction without modern machinery is mind-boggling with the biggest stones (sarcens) weighing about 25 tons and 30 feet high. It is believed the largest stones were dragged from the Marlborough Downs, 20 miles away, and the smaller 'bluestones' from the Preseli hills in Wales, more than a 100 miles away.
