Product Description
HISTORY
The Highland Dirk is a long dagger with a straight blade. It was in common use in the Highlands of Scotland from the 16th Century. Many Highlanders couldn't afford a sword but all carried a dirk and it acquired an iconic status. Oaths were sworn on the blade of their Dirks and it became a symbol of honour. By the 1800's some had developed into an ornate and functional item with outer pouches on the sheath to carry a knife and fork. The shape of the handle was often in the form of a thistle ( the National flower) and highly decorated with silver fittings and semi-precious stones such as the Cairngorm.
