LEGEND
Lugh was one of the most powerful of Celtic Gods in Irish mythology. Tall with long flowing golden hair, a fierce warrior but also a master of the Arts. His fiery sword had a life of it's own and became hotter the more it killed. His horse could travel over land and sea and his faithful and fierce hound, Failinis, could change water into wine!
HISTORY
The Celtic Knot design in many variations is found throughout the British Isles and the most prevalent surviving examples are on Christian artifacts from the 7th Century in the form of huge standing stone crosses, metalwork and beautifully illuminated bibles such as the Book of Kells, which is on display at Trinity College, Dublin.
It is uncertain when these designs originated and where but certainly many artifacts have been found with this scroll and knotwork throughout Europe and Asia going back to pre-Christian times.
In modern times we try to put a meaning to this artwork but as little is written down it is all speculation but undoubtedly it indicates a person's status, or to glorify the gospels.
