HISTORY
HEATHERGEM - A natural product
Heather, the evergreen plant, covers the mountains of Scotland making the scenery look purple. Heathergem jewellery is made up of the stems of the heather plant dyed different colours and moulded to-gether. No two pieces are alike.
THISTLE
The Thistle is the National emblem and flower of Scotland - and here is the story of how it came about. In 1263AD, Haakon of Norway attacked Scotland with a huge army of Vikings. There was a terrible storm at sea and many ships ran aground on the Scottish shoreline. As survivors struggled ashore a soldier stepped on a thistle, crying out alerted a sentry. So on 2nd October near Largs Alexander III, King of the Scots defeated the Vikings. Hence the Thistle became the National flower of Scotland. A great story!
