St.CECILIA, All Saints Church, Filby, Norfolk
St.Cecilia is the patron saint of music. According to legend she was a Roman noblewoman of the 5th Century who vowed her virginity to God. Married against her will she converted her pagan husband to Christianity and he respected her virginity. It is said 'she sang in her heart to the lord' on her wedding day. She was martyred by beheading after the order of burning did not harm her. She is buried in the catacombs of St. Callistus, near Rome.
A painted image of St.Cecilia can be found at the parish church of All Saints at Filby, Norfolk. She is one of eight figures painted on the 15th Century roodscreen dado which are in excellent condition despite the age. She is shown with a floral wreath.
