KING ARTHUR and his shield 'PRIDWEN'
The legend of King Arthur in British literature was first mentioned by Geoffrey of Monmouth in 'Historia regum Britanniae' in the 12th century. Geoffrey asserts that the King's shield was adorned with an image of the Virgin Mary and was called 'Pridwen' coming from Welsh traditions possibly meaning 'fair of face'.
