HISTORY
HENRY VIII
The most well known of the Tudor monarchs,Henry VIII, infamous for having 6 wives. He reigned from 1509 to 1547. He broke away from the Roman Catholic Faith because he wanted to divorce his first wife, Katherine of Aragon, as she hadn't produced a male heir to the throne, and his desire to marry Anne Boleyn who had refused to become his mistress. He consequently became the head of the Church of England which initiated the English Reformation and Protestantism. Henry consequently sanctioned the destruction of the Saint's shrines and England's remaining monasteries were all dissolved, and their property transferred to the Crown. Despite his ruthlessness during his reign the English Parliament gained strength as did the Navy and England's standing in the Western world became more prominent.
