Antique Heraldic Union Flag Sign

SKU: RF-0041 Category: Tags: , , ,
SKU: RF-0041

This Heraldic plaque is made of pressed card on blue velvet attached to a rustic wood backing. The age is impossible to determine but as the image shows it is not in pristine condition. Of course this adds to it’s old world charm.

The MOTTO ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’ can faintly be seen on the bottom scroll. This is the motto for the Order of the garter meaning ‘evil be to him who evil thinks’.

Dimensions: Height: 61 cms, Width: 46 cms, Depth: 1 cm

UNION FLAG
The Union Flag, or Union Jack as it is often called, is the National flag of the United Kingdom combining the crosses of the three countries united under one Sovereign.
The cross of St.George represents England and Wales
The Saltire of St.Andrew represents Scotland
The cross of St.Patrick represents Ireland, although since 1921 only Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.
The flag was originally a naval flag named after King James VI of Scotland who also became King of England as James I in 1603. The name Jack derives from the Latin for James - Jacobus.
James never saw the union of England and Scotland.  It was under the reign of Queen Anne the two countries united in 1707.
