Product Description

HISTORY

This Annular brooch ( as opposed to the pennanular brooch has no opening for the pin) is a copy of one found at Ballinderry Crannog, County Offaly, Ireland.  It is dated to the 9th Century and was found at the ancient lake dwelling of a local Irish king.

It is decorated with the Celtic Triquetra so often found on Irish artifacts of this period, representing the continuity of life.

These brooches had an important function as status symbols that demonstrated the wealth and rank of the wearer and were regarded as highly valued items.
